Russell is the Director of Advocacy at RIL. He first developed a passion for disability rights advocacy after serving for seven years as president of DOGFITE (Disability Organizing Group For Initiating Total Equality). Russell was also an early participant in Occupy Sacramento, which led him to develop a passion for community organizing.
Russell currently serves as Vice-Chair of the California Disability Action Coalition, Treasurer of Organize Sacramento and a board member of Sacramento Regional Coalition to End Homelessness. He has also served as Chair of the Sacramento City Disabilities Advisory Commission, served for several years as a board member of Oak Park Neighborhood Association (OPNA), and he is a founding member and facilitator of Sacramento Transit Rider’s Union (SacTRU). He is a member of the 2013 cohort of the Boards and Commissions Leadership Institute, led by the Sacramento Housing Alliance.
Russell resides in Sacramento’s historic Oak Park, and in his free time, can be found performing karaoke or improv comedy. He also enjoys travel, and he is especially looking forward to kicking off 2019 with a trip to the UK.
